Touro AMCP Chapter
AMCP is an organization focused on continuously improving the broad field of managed care through collaboration and discussion between healthcare professionals and students. The AMCP student chapter at Touro University was established 4 years ago. Though our chapter is new, we are steadily growing each year and are very enthusiastic about getting involved in the AMCP community. Our chapter aims to get students involved in the world of managed care pharmacy by hosting events that allow students to interact with professionals in the field and gain hands-on experience with managed care activities.
Purpose of the Conference
The purpose of this 2-day student-focused AMCP Western Regional Conference is to:
· Create a network of invaluable resources for pharmacy students
· Emphasize the importance of managed care pharmacy and illustrate the opportunities available
· Open discussion between professionals and other students to continuously improve the field of managed care pharmacy
· Emphasize the importance in networking and interprofessional collaboration
The main focus of this conference will be discussing Evidence-Based Medicine. Pharmacy is a fast pace environment and they say that have of what students learn in pharmacy school will be outdated by the time they graduate. Therefore, students must be continuous learners. The goal of this conference will be to equip the students with the tools they need to effectively analyze the new evidence as it comes out each year so they can make the best decisions for their patients. Representatives from local health plans, PBMs, and pharmaceutical companies will come to discuss topics such as P&T committees, Clinical Trials, Pharmacoeconomics and Health Outcomes Research. These topics will be presented through educational sessions and keynote guest speakers. In addition to the main theme, we will have an expo forum and a residency/ fellowship roundtable so that students can talk one on one with professionals in the field to make new connections that could lead to rotations, residencies and future careers.
